Starting a web design agency

Let’s take it way back… circa 2010-2014. I studied advertising and marketing at The Univesity of Alabama. I started doing graphic design in college and dabbled with my website and blogs. What began as a class project assignment to create my blog eventually sparked a passion in me for design. I had so much fun figuring out how to upgrade and make my basic website into a strategic, beautiful site that I eventually helped a couple of friends with theirs.

Fresh out of college, I started my career at Time Inc. working for their Oxmoor House Publishing division. This was a dream come true getting to work on the marketing for their cookbooks. I learned so much about publishing, design, and layout while getting to take home a lot of amazing cookbooks. Eventually, a new opportunity opened at a Fortune 500 financial institution for me to grow further in my career. I was recruited back to the same company I had interned with during college. I was able to dive deeper into the full spectrum of marketing. I had the opportunity to work on events, localized marketing, large-scale campaigns, TV commercials, and more. I worked my way from associate up to a Vice President by the time I was 30. At the same time, I began to realize I had other dreams I wanted to pursue on the side.

One of those dreams was writing. I started to take my blog more seriously and eventually self-published my first book in 2018. It was then that I decided to start Little Creative company to help others with their projects too. It was a way to fund my writing and passions while paying down student debt, but eventually, it became so much more than that. I saw that I could really help people with the skills they didn’t have and bring their websites and books to life.

I saw a need for attractive and strategic websites for small businesses. I often noticed these amazing businesses with sub-par, dated websites and knew there was a better way to help them get a website that works for them. So often business owners depend fully on others for their needs to help their business run. But there’s a better way that allows us to partner together so that I can help build a beautiful and strategic site that they can use and maintain themselves. At the same time, I also saw a need for indie authors and self published authors. So often it can be hard to find someone with the right experience to help bring your book to life. As a fellow author, I get it and have been there. So I wanted to help other authors with bringing their books to life.

This brings us to now.

I was in the corporate world for over 10 years and had been doing my business as a side hustle for the past 6 years. Over the past year, through a lot of life changes, I came to a point where I needed to decide between my full-time job and my business. In June 2024, I decided to make the leap to run my business full-time and leave my corporate job. Taking this leap is scary for many reasons, but worth it to be able to pursue my passions full-time and help small businesses and authors.

It brings me so much joy to help others fill in the gap of creativity. So that’s the origin story of Little Creative Company.

Oh and you may be wondering… how did you come up with the name Little Creative Company. Back in 2018 when I was trying to decide on my business name, I was stuck between using my name or having a separate name. I had heard many friends say “I just need a little creative help to get started” and in my head, I knew I could be that creative help. I also loved the scripture in Zechariah 4:10 that says, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.” as well as the scripture in Luke 16:10 that says, “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” I love that there is something special about the little/ small things in life. Small businesses are so special because they are what the American backbone is built on. And it’s truly an honor to be able to come alongside small businesses and authors to help them bring their dreams to life.
